Welcome back to the Opus Duo newsletter!
This space was launched to share insights to the HR Tech space, what we are building, its progress and challenges, and to share my own experiences as a founder in the hope that someone walks away with something useful.
Everything Else
In the last newsletter, I discussed how launching software platforms today is rarely just a matter of technical complexity—though there are plenty of code-level challenges to tackle. Instead, it often comes down to delighting users. We can build a solid product, but there’s a monumental difference between merely “good” and truly “great.” That chasm of user experience demands exponentially more effort and time than one might expect. Sometimes, it’s the smallest details, like a button’s click animation or radius of boxes—that, collectively, make the difference between an adequate user journey and one that’s genuinely enjoyable.
But when do you stop perfecting and just put it out there? There’s a famous adage about embracing the embarassment of your first product release, or else you’ve launched too late. It’s a bold notion and it’s easy for us to get bogged down making every single pixel flawless. At the same time, I’ve learned to take a step back and see the wider picture, reminding myself that the overall user flow matters more than hyper-focusing on every tiny detail. After all, if we never launch, we can’t learn from real-world feedback.
That brings me to the heart of this newsletter—everything else beyond the code. Now that our platform is (mostly!) stable and ready for prime time, we’re shifting gears to focus on marketing and sales. From the outset, our plan has always been to grow organically by region, and given the location of much of our team (and a bit of personal bias), San Diego and the greater SoCal area became our first choice. It’s a vibrant community that seems open to new ideas—especially ones that promise to connect job seekers with companies in more meaningful, efficient ways.
If you’re a business looking for talent or someone hunting for your next role in sunny SoCal, we’d love for you to give our platform a try. We’re committed to squashing bugs and refining features as quickly as possible. That’s where your patience and feedback truly make all the difference. We may still have a few rough edges, but we’re laser-focused on continuous improvement—because, in the end, it’s our users’ delightenment (did I make that up?) that motivates us to keep iterating, refining, and occasionally embarrassing ourselves for the sake of building something truly remarkable.
Progress
We are live! Sign up and utilize the platform. It is bare as we bring on the two sides of the platform but as a job seeker, I cannot recommend it enough, and it will always be free. Supporting job seekers and making the game fair is our mission.
